Kurt Zouma was picked over Dayot Upamecano and Aymeric Laporte in the latest France squad.

The 26-year old has nailed down a place in the France squad over Aymeric Laporte and Dayot Upamecano in the latest France squad.

Aymeric Laporte is yet to make his debut for the French National squad.

Zouma is partnering up with summer signing Thiago Silva in the heart of Chelsea’s defence and has earned three back-to-back call-ups for France’s clashes against Finland, Portugal and Sweden.

‘There’s competition everywhere,’ the France head coach explained at his pre-match press conference on Tuesday.

‘Kurt has been with us for a while, he’s been called up many times but hasn’t played that much.

‘If I pick him it’s because I think he’s better than the other people because of what he’s doing at Chelsea.

‘He had a few injuries in a row but now he’s been very fit for a while, he’s very calm, so he’s here.’

Deschamps added: ‘If you’re asking why I picked those four central defenders, I have to choose.

‘We have three games in nine days so obviously everybody will play, including Kurt.’
