Chelsea already started to plan the exit of Thiago Silva this summer

Chelsea eye Lille’s Leny Yoro as potential Thiago Silva replacement

Chelsea Football Club is looking for a brilliant young prospect from Lille to replace experienced defender Thiago Silva, who is likely to leave the club. With Silva’s contract likely to expire in the summer, the Blues are looking at 18-year-old Leny Yoro as a possible replacement.

Yoro, rated as a ’11/10 prospect’ by scout Jacek Kulig, has been impressing with his performances for Lille despite his young age. Chelsea, along with European giants Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, are interested in signing the highly regarded centre-back.

Although Silva’s expertise has proved invaluable, his increasingly old age and recent run of conditions have pushed Chelsea to look for a younger alternative. The Brazilian’s £110,000-a-week contract is about to expire, making room for new players to grace the Stamford Bridge grass.

However, the fight to sign Yoro is set to be hot, with Manchester United also interested in the capable defender. Lille’s estimate of roughly £51 million could start a bidding war among Europe’s best teams, substantially raising the youngster’s price.

Chelsea’s defensive shake-up may not end with Silva’s departure, as sources claim that Trevoh Chalobah may also be departing the club. Despite interest from Bayern Munich last summer, a deal did not materialize. Yet, with possibilities limited this season, Chalobah may seek a fresh start abroad.

As Chelsea prepare for a summer of transition, getting the services of Yoro might signify the beginning of a new era at Stamford Bridge, one built on the foundation of youthful promise and defensive strength.
