Romelu Lukaku tipped to join Arsenal this summer window

Arsenal told to offer £60m for struggling Romelu Lukaku.

Arsenal legend Paul Merson believes the club could strike a deal for unsettled star Romelu Lukaku this summer.

The Gunners are in desperate need of a lethal striker and Lukaku could be a perfect signing for them even though the Belgian struggled in his second debut with Chelsea last season scoring only eight Premier League goals.

“Arsenal should make a cheeky £60m bid for Romelu Lukaku,” said Merson. “Because if Chelsea are so desperate to let him go that they’re talking about loaning him to Inter Milan, surely they would take the money.

“I would be chasing Lukaku hard if I was Arsenal. I’d be trying my hardest. You don’t have to do too much running at Arsenal. The way they play you want the centre forward to be up front and stay there. He would suit them. Arsenal have runners who could get in behind him and supply him with crosses.

“I would like to think Arsenal is a club Lukaku would consider. They’re talking about him going back to Inter Milan. But Arsenal are as big a club as Inter. Arsenal may not be in the Champions League next season, but Inter are not winning it are they?

“The Premier League is not like that. It’s hard enough to score against Norwich. But Lukaku would score goals for Arsenal.”

Cesar Azpilicueta’s future with Chelsea will be decided next week

Azpilicueta, 32, is presently on international service with Spain in the Nations League. On Sunday, they will play their final game.

Barcelona is interested in signing the experienced defender, but they are hesitant to pay a transfer fee. Azpilicueta’s contract is up in 12 months, with Chelsea having exercised an option in April.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has indicated that the club’s longest-serving player might be allowed to depart for free as a reward for his dedication and crucial role in the club’s recent success.

According to writer reports, Barcelona will pay less than €5 million for Chelsea captain and defender Cesar Azpilicueta during the summer transfer window.

Azpilicueta joined Chelsea from Marseille in the summer of 2012 and has since become a fixture at Stamford Bridge. The 32-year-old versatile defender has won every conceivable title with Chelsea and is a fan favourite at Stamford Bridge for his demeanour and leadership.

Azpilicueta, on the other hand, might leave Chelsea this summer in search of a fresh challenge. Because his contract was set to end in 2022, the Spanish international would have been a free agent next month. His contract, however, had an automatic extension provision that was activated when a certain amount of time had passed.

Azpilicueta’s future will be discussed next week, with the captain aiming to avoid having to make a transfer request after 10 years with the club.

Lautaro Martinez has been linked with Chelsea.

The agent of Lautaro Martinez claims he’s happy at Inter Milan. It means he might stay with the Italian club.

The striker has been linked with Chelsea.

Alejandro Camano spoke to FCInterNews.it, “At this moment, he has no reason to think there is even the slightest possibility he could leave Inter.

“Nobody has told us anything, the truth is that a player who scores this many goals in Serie A cannot be ignored, but he has four years left on his contract.

“He is happy, is enjoying his time with the team, the club and the city. There’s no reason to leave. We know that professional football is like that, it can all change tomorrow, but as of today this is the situation.

“We don’t know what the future holds in football, but Lautaro (Martinez) believes playing for Inter is something splendid and many players would love to be in his shoes. Lautaro is not thinking about some hypothetical next destination, but to the next season, where he wants to win everything with Inter.”

Marcos Alonso is expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer.

The Spaniard will leave Chelsea as the defender wishes to return to his country Spain but also claims he’s happy at the West London club.

He is out of contract in the summer of 2023 and reportedly wants to a fresh challenge next season.

Following Ben Chilwell’s season-ending injury at Chelsea, Alonso racked up 46 appearances in all competitions.

His arrival at Camp Nou could provide competition for Jordi Alba who has been a mainstay at that position for several years now.

Alonso said to Onda Cero:“On paper I have one more year of contract and that is what there is today I’ve already said other times that I would like to [return to Spain] but it doesn’t depend entirely on me. There are two games left here and then it’s time to rest,” he said.

“I’ve played 50 games, we’ve been world champions, we’ve had bad luck in the cup finals. I can’t complain about anything at Chelsea but the desire to play in Spain is there. It doesn’t depend entirely on me and I’m happy.”

Rudiger also talked about his first conversation with Real coach Carlo Ancelotti.

Departing Chelsea defender Toni Rudiger is excited to be joining Real Madrid. The Frenchman recently joined Los Blancos and left Stamford Bridge.

He will formally sign for Real on July 1 upon the expiry of his Chelsea contract.

He spoke to Marca: “I’m very proud and I still don’t realise what this all means, because I haven’t even been to Madrid yet. I will go with all my family as soon as I finish with the German national team, and then I think I will finally realise what signing for Real Madrid means.

“I think that in football, as in life, everything is a chapter, and this is a new chapter for me. Obviously, this new chapter is a big one because it’s a big step for me. It’s probably the biggest of my whole career.

“The first time I heard from Madrid it was like, ‘wow’. They first contacted me in September or October I think. A club like this doesn’t call you many times so it was amazing.”

Toni Rudiger also talked about his first conversation with Real coach Carlo Ancelotti.

Rudiger added: “It was a very welcoming conversation. He told me that everyone was very happy to have me at Madrid, and that makes me very happy. It’s clear that Ancelotti is one of the people who make Real Madrid very strong, but he isn’t the only one. There are Karim Benzema, Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Casemiro… He told me they were all very happy and that makes me proud. It also makes me realise that I have done well these last three years, and that gives me motivation to do even better at Real Madrid.”

Romelu Lukaku has been linked with an Inter Milan return this summer.

The Belgian forward moved to Stamford Bridge last summer from Inter but failed to hit the ground running in the West London club.

He scored only eight goals last term and could be allowed to leave this summer on loan or on a permanent deal.

England legend Glen Johnson who won two titles with Chelsea believes Lukaku lacks the ‘courage’ to prove his worth.

He said to Bettingodds.com: “I personally would want to go again next season and prove myself, but I feel with Lukaku that he’s had a whole season to show that sort of courage and he hasn’t.

“I can’t see anything changing next season. If he was the sort of player that can stand up and show courage next season, then I think we would have already seen hints of that.

“I can see him settling elsewhere because if he has that type of courage to bounce back in pre-season, then he should have had the courage to bounce back during his first season. I don’t see him bouncing back next season, so maybe a move somewhere else is best for both parties.”

Billy Gilmour slammed after Scotland’s exit from World Cup.

The Chelsea midfielder spent the entire 2021/22 season on loan at Norwich City and made 24 appearances in the process.

He had a disappointing season with the Canaries and he was also included worst Premier League XI of the season by ESPN pundits.

It is to be seen if Thomas Tuchel makes him a part of his plan for the upcoming season.

During Scotland’s defeat to Ukraine, Gilmour was heavily criticised for his performance for the national side.

“Billy Gilmour is a talented player but if he is not careful he could end up becoming the next Barry Bannan,” Charlie Nicholas wrote for the Daily Record.

“Gilmour is a tidy footballer but he has to offer more and we need to stop making him out to be our saviour. He struggled in the play-off because he didn’t get on the ball enough – and when he did it was square pass, square pass.

“Let’s hope he can make a greater impact than Bannan – another physically small midfielder who did OK for a few seasons but failed to hit the heights everyone hoped.”
