Chelsea sets €25 million price tag on Real Madrid loanee Kepa Arrizabalaga
Chelsea Football Club has reportedly put a €25 million price tag for goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, who is currently on loan at Real Madrid.
The Spanish shot-stopper, who joined the La Liga giants on loan due to Thibaut Courtois’ injury, has struggled to earn a regular starting spot under boss Carlo Ancelotti.
Arrizabalaga has made 18 appearances in various competitions for Real Madrid, keeping seven clean sheets. However, he faces competition from Andriy Lunin, and Ancelotti remains neutral on his preferred goalie.
Despite Arrizabalaga’s stated wish to stay at Santiago Bernabeu beyond the loan period, Real Madrid appears unwilling to match Chelsea’s €25 million valuation.
The Blues, who paid a record €80 million for Arrizabalaga, are ready to part ways with the goalkeeper, who is regarded as one of the club’s least successful signings.
Arrizabalaga’s time at Chelsea fell short of expectations, prompting a loan move to Real Madrid to fill a goalkeeping void. However, the Spanish giants are unlikely to make the agreement permanent next summer.
While Arrizabalaga missed Real Madrid’s recent Copa del Rey loss to Atletico Madrid, he returned to the starting lineup for the disputed 3-2 La Liga win over UD Almeria.
As negotiations continue, it remains to be seen whether Real Madrid will match Chelsea’s asking price for the goalkeeper’s permanent departure.
