A transfer to Chelsea has been mentioned for Victor Osimhen

According to rumours, Chelsea is prepared to spend more money in the January transfer window and is considering signing Napoli striker Victor Osimhen. With only one victory in their first six Premier League games, Mauricio Pochettino’s Blues have carried over their dismal run of play from last season into the current campaign. With five points out of a possible 18, Chelsea’s lone victory came against recently promoted Luton Town. Chelsea is now in the fourteenth position.

The primary issue for the Blues this season has been scoring goals, as Pochettino’s team has only managed to do it five times. According to their xG numbers, summer acquisition Nicolas Jackson and midfielder Enzo Fernandez are now the two worst finishers in the Premier League. And now, Spanish newspaper Nacional says that Chelsea will attempt to remedy their goal-scoring problems by once again making a purchase.

Since taking over at the end of May of last year, Todd Boehly and the Blues board have spent almost £1 billion on new players, and they now want to sign Osimhen from Napoli because they need a proven striker. Chelsea are ‘prepared to pay’ €172 million (£150 million), according to Nacional, to sign Osimhen as soon as possible because Boehly is ‘motivated to continue investing a lot of money in players who can improve’ their fortunes.

As Napoli won their first Scudetto in 33 years, Osimhen, who was on Real Madrid’s “wish list” in the summer, concluded the previous season as Serie A’s leading scorer. Chelsea of the Premier League is planning a seductive offer for both Napoli and the Nigerian international, but negotiations with the Neapolitan squad may prove particularly challenging.

The 24-year-old’s form has continued into current season, with Osimhen scoring three goals through his first five Serie A games. Fabrizio Romano asserts that “the message from the club remains the same” that “this is a long-term project” and they are optimistic it will finally materialise despite their disastrous start to the new season.
