Chelsea have jumped forward in the race for Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez.
The Inter Milan forward is in his second season at the club. He has come of age under Antonio Conte this season and together alongside Romelu Lukaku, the striking duo have hit the ground running.
Martinez is only 22 and having been in such good form has seen interest in him rise from different parts of Europe. The striker has been tipped as a potential signing for two big clubs in Europe already – Barcelona and Chelsea.
The Catalans are looking for a long term replacement for the ageing Luis Suarez and getting South American Martinez would not only fit the bill in terms of their playing style but also help appease Lionel Messi, who prefers to play with players he can speak the same language with.
As for Chelsea, the Blues are having a breakthrough season for their academy stars with Tammy Abraham showing great potential. However, his backup options Michy Batshuayi is simply not good enough while Olivier Giroud is a slow and old player, who does not suit the Chelsea system.
It is now being reported that Chelsea have raced ahead of Barcelona in the transfer for Martinez as they have players they can offer in the deal. Conte wants a left wing back and Chelsea have Emerson and Alonso – both of whom Conte has on his shortlist.
Hence, it is being seen that the Blues are the favorites to sign the striker now!
