Sporting Lisbon firmly rejects Chelsea’s advances for Viktor Gyokeres at £85 million

Sporting Lisbon has firmly resisted the idea of parting ways with their prolific striker Viktor Gyokeres, stating that Chelsea must pay a staggering £85 million if they are to secure the Swedish goal machine.

Chelsea and Arsenal have reportedly sent scouts to watch Gyokeres, who has started the Primeira Liga with an explosive start to his time in Lisbon.

The 25-year-old former Brighton and Swansea City forward has scored 16 goals in 19 games this season, showing his ability since joining Coventry City for £18.5 million in the summer.

Sporting’s valued manager, Ruben Amorim, stated clearly that Gyokeres will only leave the Portuguese club if an eye-watering release clause becomes effective during the upcoming winter transfer window.

He said in midweek: “Gyokeres has a release clause, it was said that in January he would only leave under the clause. But it is normal for clubs to pay attention to clubs in Portugal, they know that the players in our championship are prepared for the best leagues in the world.”

Meanwhile, Chelsea is up against heavy competition for striker reinforcements, with top target Victor Osimhen opting for a contract deal at Napoli.

Osimhen’s new contract has a £112 million release clause, hindering Mauricio Pochettino’s plans for strengthening Chelsea’s attacking team.

Gyokeres’ former club, Coventry, stands to receive about £850,000 if he scores 25 goals for Sporting, with extra performance-related incentives dangling as potential cash incentives for the English team.
