Chelsea have made an improved contract offer to Toni Rudiger

It has been widely reported in recent months that Rudiger has stated a desire to become one of Stamford Bridge’s top earners if he is to stay in England. In terms of money, a weekly salary of £200,000 has been demanded.

Despite the fact that Rudiger and his agents rejected a new offer from the Blues as recently as Friday night, there remains ‘a little ray of confidence’ inside the club that a deal may be achieved.

According to reports, the club has made a proposal to the 28-year-old and his agents that is closer to the £200,000-per-week demand, with the club keen not to lose too many defenders on free transfers this summer.

Club captain Cesar Azpilicueta and Rudiger’s fellow Blues center-back Andreas Christensen are also out of contract in June, with the pair apparently interested in a move to Barcelona.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are among the overseas teams who have sent Rudiger pre-contract offers ahead of the summer transfer season, and Manchester United is said to be keeping a close eye on events.

Rudiger is aware that if he departs Chelsea on a Bosman move, he could earn up to £400,000 per week (including signing on fees and incentives).
