The FA’s betting regulations were broken, and Ivan Toney is currently serving a suspension

According to sources, Chelsea is ‘confident’ that they will sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney in January before Manchester United and Tottenham. To help Mauricio Pochettino’s team score more goals this season, the Blues bought Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku, but the former is already injured and won’t be available until at least November.

Pochettino’s first five matches in command of Chelsea in all competitions have been a mixed bag, with the team losing two, winning two, and winning one. In their most recent Premier League match against Nottingham Forest, Chelsea had 21 shots against their opponent’s seven, but only two of those were on target, as opposed to three for the visitors, who won 1-0.

Jackson, the team’s new striker, has one goal in four Premier League games, and Chelsea is already considering adding another attacker during the January transfer window. According to the Spanish daily Fichajes, Chelsea’s’main target’ in the winter transfer market is Toney of Brentford. For gambling violations, the English Football Association in May imposed an eight-month suspension on England international Toney.

The Football Association determined that the 27-year-old had broken its betting laws 232 times between 2017 and 2021. The best scorer for Brentford in 2022–23 will no longer be able to play until January 2024, and he won’t be able to train with his teammates at the club’s facility until this month. Toney has also been closely associated with Manchester United and Tottenham, but according to Fichajes, Chelsea is “confident” that they can finalise the transfer of Toney because they are “still looking for a solution to their goal-scoring issues.”

After rumours linking him to a move to Stamford Bridge over the summer, the Blues are “already planning a strategy to reinforce their attacking line in January” and Toney “has come up again in transfer talks.” Despite his suspension, Chelsea believes that Toney is the answer to their goal-scoring woes and are prepared to wait for his return. They also believe that Toney’s presence might revitalise the squad in the second half of the season. Toney recently made the suggestion that while he is currently ignoring the transfer rumours, he is looking to play for a bigger club than Brentford in the near future.
