Willy Caballero has hailed teammate Kepa Arrizabalaga for his attitude in the match against Tottenham Hotspur. The Spaniard was benched by manager Maurizio Sarri as an aftermath of the feud between the two during the match between Manchester City and Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final. The Blues number one denied being substituted in the extra time, leaving Sarri furious on the touchline as he looked to replace the Spaniard with Caballero.
However, the Italian gaffer finally showed who the boss is as he benched the first choice keeper and brought in the veteran Argentine to start against Spurs. The former Manchester City custodian responded well to his manager’s faith and kept a clean sheet as the Blues got the better of their north London rivals by 2-0 in their own backyard.
Speaking to the media after the match, Caballero said, “A clean sheet and to play for me is a satisfaction. We spoke about what happened the other day. The good news is that it doesn’t matter what happened. We are ready. Kepa was fantastic today supporting me. He’s learned, we learned, and we are improving as a team.”
Sarri lavished praise on his Argentine custodian by saying, “Caballero is a good goalkeeper with great experience. He’s a great man. For us, he’s very important on the pitch and in the dressing room.”
