Sarri reveals why he left Hudson-Odoi out of the squad against Bournemouth

Sarri omitted Hudson-Odoi from the squad to maintain the right balance

Callum Hudson-Odoi was left out of Chelsea’s squad in the 4-0 defeat away at Bournemouth on Wednesday night, with reports suggesting that the 18-year-old was left out by Sarri as punishment for wanting to leave the club.

Hudson-Odoi had a transfer request to join Bayern Munich turned down by the Blues after his goal in the FA Cup against Sheffield Wednesday.

However, Sarri has made it clear that the 18-year-old was omitted from the squad to maintain the balance of the team and it has nothing to do with his future at the club.

“He was with us, he played three days ago. There was Willian [in the starting XI], so I had only one winger on the bench,” Sarri said in his post-match press conference.

“We have four wingers, one had to be in the stands.”

Chelsea’s disastrous second-half display saw them crumble to a 4-0 defeat, with Joshua King, David Brooks and Charlie Daniels all getting on the scoresheet.

And Sarri once again admitted that the defeat was down to the mentality of the team, claiming that the players weren’t motivated enough.

“At the moment they can react against a big team, when we play against a big team we can play with a big level of motivation,” he said.

“But in this match it was different. Suddenly after the first goal, we were not able to play. I think it was a different situation. Of course about the mentality.

“I feel frustrated, not under pressure. I did not see my work [on the pitch], so I am frustrated.”
