Frank Lampard had a choice on his hands when he took close to 40 players to Chelsea’s pre season tour to Japan.
Lampard had his hands tied in terms of not being able to sign new players but the Blues had over 35 players out on loan, most of whom made the cut back to Lampard’s pre season squad.
Lampard had said he was going to play out the situation and see how it unfolded. The Chelsea manager decided to give everybody a fair chance and see how it would work out.
And he did, in all the matches, most Chelsea players were given the chance to impress besides training with the first team. Now that pre season is over, Chelsea are back in England, the Blues boss will have the tough choice to cut down his squad size and tell some players to leave.
Two players who have reportedly been told so by Lampard are Danny Drinkwater and Tiemoue Bakayoko. The duo bought by the club in 2017 have failed to impress ever since with both of them being sidelined by Sarri completely last season.
Their chances of making it back to the squad seem increasingly bleak for them and Chelsea expect them soon to be sold. Will the Blues be right to sell them?
