Transfer Ban Would Not Have Judged Chelsea Striker's Importance: Frank Lampard

Frank Lampard has revealed that Tammy Abraham would have featured for Chelsea even if the club was not going through a transfer ban.

With their inability to sign any players this season, Lampard has relied on Chelsea’s youth talent to fill up the senior ranks.

This is very uncharacteristic for the Blues but so far, Lampard’s picks have turned out to be golden for the club. Abraham now has 7 goals in 5 Premier League games and Mason Mount has 3.

Olivier Giroud has expressed his frustrations on having to sit out in every game week but Abraham has left no room for any debates.

“I never had clear expectations for him, only that I believed in him and trusted him,” Lampard told a press conference.

“A lot has been made of the [transfer] ban giving young players the potential opportunities, but I thought the time was right to give Tammy the opportunity at this club anyway because of the quality he’s got.

“I’m really delighted he’s got his goals, there’s more still to come. He’s in a place now where he just needs to sustain and improve even more, and I think with his mentality and how he is I hope to see that.”

Abraham struck a stunning record of 26 goals for Aston Villa last season which prompted Lampard to give him a shot in the Premier League. Once he found his stride, the Englishman has not been able to stop scoring for Chelsea.

“I’ve just spoken about how I feel about Tammy,” Lampard added. “He’s put himself in the bracket for England with being top scorer at this point.

“It’s one for Gareth [Southgate], I’d hate to step on his toes but it’s clear with what Tammy is doing he’s going to be wanted.”
