Tottenham earmarked Chelsea target Luis Enrique as top candidate to take up vacant managerial role

Luis Enrique has already held talks with Chelsea.

Tottenham Hotspur can give a tough fight to Chelsea in the pursuit of Luis Enrique. According to the Telegraph, the North London club is looking to pick him as a top candidate to take up the vacant managerial role.

The former Spain manager has already held talks with Chelsea, who are keen to complete an exhaustive search for a new manager before making an appointment.

The former Spain coach is said to be keen on the Chelsea job and wanted to take charge immediately amid the prospect of facing Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final.

Meanwhile, Tottenham have ramped up their efforts to appoint a permanent successor to Antonio Conte and are planning to initiate contact with Enrique as early as this week.

Both Chelsea and Tottenham are also interested in former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann. Chelsea have already taken an interview of the 35-year-old.

Nagelsmann worked with some in his previous clubs while his agency also has a good rapport with the club.

While the West Londoners are reportedly wary of Nagelsmann’s age, it is understood the German tactician favours a move to Chelsea over joining Tottenham.

Enrique is a free agent while Nagelsmann remains on Bayern’s payroll, so a move for the German will involve paying a buyout clause to the Bundesliga champions – although he favours waiting until the summer before joining a new club.
