Mauricio Pochettino sends warning to struggling Noni Madueke

Mauricio Pochettino has asked Madueke to raise his level.

The English winger is one of the several attacking options at Pochettino’s disposal and the club would offload a few players this summer.

But Madueke has failed to establish himself under the Argentine manager managing only 203 minutes of football in all competitions.

He has made just eight appearances across all competitions this season, starting only one game in the Premier League.

The 21-year-old could be loaned out this January to secure regular first-team football but Pochettino is not keen on Madueke leaving mid-season and wants him to fight for his place.

Madueke has missed the last three Premier League games due to injury and has returned to full-team training ahead of the clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Pochettino told reporters: “I think from the beginning of the season, he was involved, then not involved, injured, and suffered some problem.

“Noni is in a position where there is massive competition, there is too many players in that area. I think he needs to compete and improve his level.

“I think at the moment, he was injured, but now he has recovered, he may be involved in the next games.”
