Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has heaped praise on Christian Pulisic and Matteo Kovacic following their 1-0 victory over Newcastle on Saturday. The Blues managed to emerge with a slim 1-0 scoreline at the end of a hard-fought game.

Marcos Alonso scored the winner for Chelsea, thanks to a superb pass from Callum Hudson-Odoi. A happy and cheerful Lampard, meanwhile, singled out Kovacic for praise.

Lampard also reserved good words for Pulisic, whose future at the Stamford Bridge has been under intense scrutiny due to lack of playing time.

“I saw the spirit and energy of the team – keep picking up the wins and take nothing for granted,” Lampard said.

“We had a problem in the game but solved it. Kovacic was outstanding and Christian [Pulisic] got at people. I am pleased, we have to play like that. We got our way.”

“I am really pleased for him. He is a hot topic [but] everyone has got a little carried away. To see him play that way [was encouraging].”
