Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has clashed with the club head Marina Granovskaia over the Willian contract situation.
The Blues are in a precarious situation of losing yet another player without having planned any backups. Their new signing Hakim Ziyech is expected to replace Pedro in the team making Willian the fourth winger. However, if Chelsea lose Willian, who is in the last few months of his contract, Lampard will once again be left struggling to make up the numbers in yet another lengthy season.
Moreover, Willian has been one of Chelsea’s better performers and the experience he brings to the table in big matches remain invaluable. He will no doubt want to stay, as he had already previously expressed but given his age, there has been a huge contract issue at the club.
Willian is 31 now and he is demanding a two to three year contract at least whereas Marina is prepared to offer the winger a 12 month extension with an option to increase it by another 12 months.Â
The Brazilian has no shortage of suitors otherwise with Juventus, Barcelona, PSG, Arsenal are gunning for the signing of a free star.Â
It is Lampard’s first big clash with Marina and while all previous managers have had to settle for her decision, it will be interesting to see the outcome of this result given Lampard’s status and cult following at the club.
