Fabrizio Romano gives update on Conor Gallagher future

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to pursue Conor Gallagher in summer.

The England international has been a mainstay at Chelsea under Mauricio Pochettino and his form has been one of the biggest positives in the team.

The Argentine manager is keen on having him for the coming season but he has only less than 18 months left on his current contract.

Chelsea are keen to offer the midfielder a contract extension in the coming months but there is still no progress over that situation.

The Blues have reportedly slapped a £80 million price tag on the midfielder but they would struggle to ask such an exorbitant amount due to the player’s contract situation.

Tottenham Hotspur are considered frontrunners for the Chelsea academy graduate and tried to sign him last summer.

Romano said: “It’s really important to see what Chelsea want to do now because the negotiations to extend his contract were never advanced or concrete so far. There was never really an agreement close for Conor Gallagher to extend his contract – now it’s up to Chelsea.

“So it’s on Chelsea, if they want to extend his contract, it’s going to be time to make it happen now.

“So the interest from Tottenham remains, there are also other clubs interested in Conor Gallagher, so it would be an open market for him. It’s important to say for Chelsea that there’s still the possibility to extend his contract.”
