Eddie Howe hit out at a ‘poor tackle’ from Moises Caicedo in EFL Cup quarterfinal

Due to no VAR, Moises Caicedo escaped with only a caution.

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe gives his opinion on a ‘poor tackle’ from Moises Caicedo. Anthony Gordon was injured in Newcastle’s Carabao Cup defeat to Chelsea.

The Magpies faced an elimination in the last-8 of the EFL Cup. Chelsea midfielder, Caicedo was shown a yellow card for a bad challenge on Gordon. He raked his studs down the winger’s heel early on at Stamford Bridge.

Due to no VAR, the Ecuadorian escaped with only a caution. Howe was not happy with this. However, Gordon was later substituted.

Newcastle boss speaks during the post-match press conference, “Emil (Krafth) was too sore to continue – he’s got a nasty gash on his shin which is quite sore at the moment. Anthony’s (Gordon) the same,” Howe said at his post-match press conference.

“I thought it was a really poor tackle on him and the type of tackle you don’t want to see taking one of our attacking players out of the game, and again he’s very sore at the minute.”

Howe spoke to Sky Sports: “I’m going on what other people’s opinions are and not mine – I haven’t seen it myself but people are telling me that they think it’s a red card.”
