Mauricio Pochettino faces another injury as Nkunku remain out of action

Chelsea’s injury problems continue, with Christopher Nkunku joining Romeo Lavia on the sidelines. Following Lavia’s season-ending injury, Nkunku has now suffered his own defeat, putting Mauricio Pochettino under even more pressure.

The French forward, who has struggled with fitness throughout the season, has made only seven Premier League appearances. Although showing glimpses of his ability, especially a goal against Liverpool, Nkunku’s playing time has been limited.

The factors surrounding Nkunku’s latest injury remain unknown, with Pochettino admitting to being unaware of how and when it occurred. However, the loss is significant for both the player and Chelsea, who were prepared for his impact in the remaining stages of the season.

Journalist Simon Phillips gave a troubling update on Nkunku’s position, stating that the forward was yet to return to training due to the setback.

Discussing the forward’s current situation, Simon said: “The other setback, that actually hasn’t really been reported yet in the media, is Christopher Nkunku.

“As I put on the blog last week, a source has told me that at the time of writing that (Wednesday or Thursday last week I believe), Nkunku had also suffered a setback and as a result had not yet returned to the grass.”

Chelsea’s depth is being challenged as important players Reece James and Ben Chilwell are out.

As the Blues try to rescue their season and improve on their current position, Nkunku’s absence presents another challenge. Pochettino will be hoping for a quick comeback for the 26-year-old, whose fitness could prove crucial in Chelsea’s future success.
