Chelsea set to offer Cole Palmer lucrative new contract

Chelsea Football Club is set to reward offensive midfielder Cole Palmer’s exceptional performances with a lucrative new deal, just over a year into his time at Stamford Bridge. According to FBRef, the club is in talks with the 21-year-old phenom about buying his services on a long-term basis.

Palmer’s strong performances have caught the attention of Mauricio Pochettino, who is keen to keep the dynamic attacker after a great season. Palmer, who joined from Manchester City last summer for a known amount of £42.5 million, has lit up the pitch, scoring 14 goals and assisting 12 in 34 games across all competitions.

Chelsea has benefited greatly from the English talent’s mobility, as he can play as an attacking midfielder, winger, or even a ‘false nine.’ Palmer’s preference to leave Manchester City in search of regular first-team football proved to be a masterstroke, as he right away established himself as a star performer in the Blues’ squad.

Palmer’s meteoric rise has also been recognized on the international level, as he made his England national team debut in November. With upcoming friendlies against footballing powers Brazil and Belgium on the horizon, Palmer’s participation in the squad adds to his quick journey to stardom.

Todd Boehly has spent over a £1billion on new additions since his takeover of the club and Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has only been impressed with one.

Speaking before the January window, he said: “I went through the summer signings. I was looking at them and it was like, ‘good signing’, ‘alright’, ‘no’, ‘alright’, ‘not bad’ and ‘alright’. That’s where it is at the moment. There are not many you can say have been amazing.

“Cole Palmer has been a really good signing, but I’m not sure there’s much else.”

As Chelsea looks to solidify its future, securing Palmer’s signature on an improved contract demonstrates the club’s commitment to nurturing and rewarding young talent.
