The focus of media attention during Paris Saint-Germain’s transfer window has primarily been on Kylian Mbappé and potential replacements

In order to bring in more top-tier players who can help PSG advance in the Champions League, a significant portion of their success this season will depend on their ability to get rid of their peripheral players. Leandro Paredes is one of those players.

The Argentinian is back in Paris in search of an exit after spending a season on loan at Juventus, where he made just 14 starts for the Turin team.

The Evening Standard reports that Chelsea, where his former boss Mauricio Pochettino has been named head coach, may be his final stop. It appears the Stamford Bridge board is looking at other options after pursuing Moises Caicedo from Brighton for the last six months in order to fill the defensive midfielder position alongside Enzo Fernandez.

Paredes does not meet the description of a young and promising prospect for the future and does not suit the mould of the players who have joined Chelsea over the past year. While depth is crucial in this situation, Pochettino also wants to enhance his team’s experience. His former player, who won the World Cup with Fernandez back in December in addition to a very strong temperament and roughness in midfield, may bring just that.

If Connor Gallagher left, the midfield would be severely diminished, and Chelsea would be eager to sign two midfielders by the end of the transfer window. Edson Alvarez of Ajax, Tyler Adams of Leeds, and Amadou Onana of Everton are all candidates for the defensive cover, and Gabi Veiga of Celta Vigo, a talented attacker, might also be under consideration.
