Thomas Tuchel banished Billy Gilmour to the reserve team.

The Scotland international had to leave Chelsea last summer after former manager Thomas Tuchel refused to give him a chance in pre-season.

He was loaned out to Norwich City the previous summer after showcasing an impressive performance at the Euro 2020 for his country.

After his spell with Norwich, Gilmour was shocked to see himself out of the pre-season tour of America and was told to train with the reserves.

He joined Brighton in a £7.5million transfer last summer and has begun to thrive under manager Roberto de Zerbi.

‘When I came back from my loan from Norwich, I came back and had pre-season and I just wasn’t in the plans,’ Gilmour told talkSPORT.

‘For me, I was like, right, OK, straight away I knew I wasn’t in the plans, and at that point I was thinking, well, I want to be at a club that really appreciates me.

‘For me, it was the right time to leave. I spoke with the manager at the time, Thomas Tuchel, and he thought the same.

‘I want to play football, I want to really settle down and try and find a house and home and be here and give my all.’
