Paul Merson explains why Eden Hazard will not score 40 goals this season

Eden Hazard isn’t ready to commit his long term future with Chelsea as he hasn’t given up hope on pursuing his dream move to Real Madrid.

The Belgian winger has been one of the hottest prospects in the transfer market and Madrid president Florentino Perez is a long term admirer of the player. Chelsea are trying to offer him fresh improved terms but the player hasn’t put pen to paper leaving the club in a restless position.

The Blues have had an excellent start to the season under Maurizio Sarri but their 3-1 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur seemed to have jeopardized their plans.

Hazard is unlikely to seek a transfer in January as Chelsea are still a prime title contenders. But in the summer the Belgian would be weighing all his available options.

“For now I’m staying at Chelsea.

“I have one year left in June. If I don’t extend, it (a move) is possible. I can’t see myself leaving in January. I wouldn’t do that to the club, to the fans.

“Next summer it’s a possibility, but it’s also possible that I spend the rest of my career at Chelsea. There has been contact in the past with PSG but I haven’t been tempted.

“If I have to go back to France one day, it would be to Lille. But today, there is no chance that I’ll come back in the French league.”
