Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel admits several of his players remain in limbo
Tuchel has previously said that the club is in negotiations with Cesar Azpilicueta regarding his future, despite the fact that the club captain has triggered an automatic one-year contract extension.
Barcelona is still interested in the right winger, and the Catalan giants are also said to be interested in Marcos Alonso.
Incoming owner Todd Boehly understands the importance of signing James and fellow academy graduate Mason Mount to new contracts.
However, James, who has three years left on his contract with his childhood club, stated that “at the moment there is nothing going on with a contract.”
Chelsea cannot decide the fates of contractual players until Todd Boehly’s takeover is completed, leading manager Tuchel to admit that numerous players’ futures are in doubt.
“It’s a bit strange, you don’t really know what’s going to happen,” said Tuchel.
“If we are able to sell, do we want to sell, do we have a chance to get alternatives?
“So the situation is, not only for us, as those responsible for the rebuild and responsible for the transfers, but also for the players, a strange situation.
