Trevoh Chalobah’s future at Chelsea is questionable this summer

With Levi Colwill returning from his loan spell at Brighton & Hove Albion, the centre-back may struggle to find a place in the team.

Colwill is highly regarded by new Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino, who intends to promote him to the first team as soon as possible. This could compel Chalobah to resign. Chalobah had loan spells with Ipswich Town, Huddersfield Town, and Ligue 1 side Lorient before joining the Blues. In the UEFA Super Cup, the 24-year-old made an excellent first impression under then-coach Thomas Tuchel. He made his Premier League debut against Crystal Palace, thanks to the German.

Chalobah scored a fantastic goal to assist the West Londoners keep a clean sheet in their 3-0 triumph. The Sierra Leone-born centre-back has spent the last two seasons at Chelsea and wants to stay. Pochettino, on the other hand, prefers to work with a small core of players. The Argentine is only interested in four central defenders, especially because they will not be playing in Europe this season.

Chalobah may have to find a new home for the upcoming season. Serie A team Inter Milan expressed interest in signing the England youth international to fill the vacancy left by Milan Skriniar. They may return for him as negotiations with Chelsea for Romelu Lukaku continue. The West Londoners are still getting rid of players from their overcrowded team. Mason Mount is the most recent player to leave Stamford Bridge, having joined Manchester United this morning.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Kalidou Koulibaly, Edouard Mendy, Abdul Baba Rahman, Mateo Kovacic, and Kai Havertz have all left Chelsea. Dujon Sterling, N’Golo Kante, and Tiemoue Bakayoko have also been released. Cesar Azpilicueta will join them. They also want to get go of Callum Hudson-Odoi, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Ethan Ampadu, Christian Pulisic, Malang Sarr, and Lukaku. If he can’t find a spot on the team, Chalobah might join that list.
