Marc Cucurella has been heavily linked with a summer exit.
The Spaniard has hardly featured for the Blues this season and is considered surplus to Mauricio Pochettino’s requirements.
He had a difficult start to the new season as he failed to make an appearance in any of Chelsea’s first six Premier League games.
But he was deployed in the right-back position as Reece James is out injured and Malo Gusto has been suspended.
It remains to be seen how long Cucurella remains happy playing in his unnatural right-back position.
With Ben Chilwell out, Cucurella has the opportunity to establish his spot in the regular XI.
Journalist Dean Jones said: “Yeah he’s obviously been playing as an emergency right-back, so it’s not been ideal. He did okay against Fulham. Not doing quite so well against Burnley. I think the good news for Chelsea is that with Gusto and James now coming back into contention, he won’t need to be used at right-back again. We might not ever see him back again at right-back to be honest.
“Chilwell is still going to be out for a couple of months and can Cucurella push to get his place back over on the left? That’ll be the next question.”
