Chelsea are reportedly targeting RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol.

The Croatian defender has attracted a lot of interest from several Premier League clubs and Chelsea has been tracking him for a long time.

He is one of the highest-rated youngsters in the game and is having a strong season with his club, RB Leipzig.

Top Premier League clubs would be vying for his signature this summer as the 21-year-old defender wants a move to the English top-flight.

He was close to joining Chelsea last summer but instead signed a contract extension with the Bundesliga outfit until the summer of 2027.

Chelsea are reportedly keeping tabs on the Croatian defender whose £97m release clause comes into effect in 2024.

Owen Hargreaves believes the Croatian will grow into the world’s best centre-half in the future.

Hargreaves said: “I think the boys said it, three centre backs in the studio before, all top players. He [Gvardiol], I think, is an absolute top one. I think he’ll be the best centre-back in the world one day. He’s learned a lot today, and probably wouldn’t mind playing in a team like this rather than against them.”
