Chelsea rejected Manchester United’s third offer for England midfielder Mason Mount but then made a “counter offer”

In an effort to strengthen his midfield, United manager Erik ten Hag has made Mount one of his top summer objectives. The Red Devils made an initial offer of £40 million before countering with offers of £50 million and £50 million plus $5 million in add-ons.

However, numerous reports state that the Blues have rejected the third offer.

Chelsea initially valued Mount at roughly £70 million before dropping their estimate to £65 million. In response to the second offer, which was worth £55 million with add-ons, Chelsea requested “£60 million plus £7 million in add-ons.” Fabrizio Romano, David Ornstein, and Matt Law claim that Mauricio Pochettino’s team has yet again responded, instructing United to pay them £58 million plus £7 million in add-ons, saving a cool £2 million. According to Romano, Chelsea also promised to meet in person to reach a compromise.

The Athletic journalist Ornstein claims that the “counter proposal” has been put up in an effort to reach a “amicable solution,” contradicting what Law reported exactly. All three parties are aiming for a “swift resolution” because United needs Mount signed before they leave on their preseason tour of the United States. After the 24-year-old turned down many offers to extend his contract at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea is “keen to comply” with his desire to depart. Ben Jacobs claims that after having their third offer rejected, the Red Devils won’t give up. Mount seems intent on quitting the club he has attended since he was six years old.

The England midfielder spent time on loan with Vitesse Arnhem in the Netherlands and Derby County before becoming an important member of the team under Frank Lampard in west London. He was promoted to the club’s senior squad when he was 18 years old. The 2022–2023 campaign saw a lot of criticism directed against Mount. In 24 Premier League appearances, he only managed three goals and two assists, and injuries significantly hampered his season. Mount has 33 goals in 195 outings since making his Blues debut in 2017.
