Romelu Lukaku, who is now on loan at Inter Milan, is not expected to return to Stamford Bridge anytime soon, according to Chelsea

The 29-year-old was transferred from Inter Milan to West London back in 2021 for £97.5 million, but struggled to score goals in 2021/22.

According to a recent article in The Guardian, it is uncertain whether Inter Milan would retain the 6’3″ Lukaku on a loan deal for the upcoming campaign.

One season after leaving the San Siro, Inter Milan asked Chelsea for a loan deal for Lukaku last summer. In terms of structure, the Serie A heavyweights paid £6.9 million up front and an additional £3.4 million in bonuses. Lukaku took a 30% salary cut to leave Chelsea last summer, and Inter Milan, his loan club, will be paying his wages in full for the entire 2022–2023 season.

According to Transfermarkt, Lukaku has made just ten appearances for the Nerazzurri in all competitions this season and has only registered two goals and one assist due to injuries.

Although injuries has undoubtedly played a role in his struggles thus far at Inter Milan, Lukaku may be able to turn things around with a return to full, consistent condition. If that doesn’t happen, the striker might leave in the summer in an effort to maximise his undeniable potential at the pinnacle of his career.
