Burnley could attempt to sign Ian Maatsen from Chelsea during January transfer window.
Chelsea defender Ian Maatsen is likely to leave the club in 2024 and he is already on the radar of Man City. Burnley may give a tough task to City to sign the 21-year-old.
Blues left-back enjoyed an excellent loan spell at Turf Moor last season, He played a big role in Burnley’s title-winning season in the Championship. They earned the promotion to the Premier League in 2023/24.
The 21-year-old appeared in 39 Championship matches for the Clarets, making 10 goal contributions. Vincent Kompany’s side would look to improve their defence as they struggled in their first season after promotion.
As per the reports of the Athletic, Burnley could attempt to sign Maatsen from Chelsea during the January transfer window. The report adds that Man City are monitoring the full-back and could look to boost his squad.
The Dutchman could be a great addition for Burnely and the Clarets had made a £31.5m bid for Maatsen accepted by Chelsea in the summer. He decided against a permanent switch to Lancashire.
He would be open to joining Man City in January. The Dutchman received his maiden international call-up in August but is yet to earn a cap for the Netherlands.
Chelsea are not completely sure on parting ways with the 21-year-old in the New Year due to current absences in Pochettino’s squad.
