Tuchel’s team defeated Crystal Palace in the competition’s semi-finals on Sunday afternoon, with second-half goals from Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mason Mount putting them over the top after a shaky start.
Thomas Tuchel’s team had gone into the game fresh off a Champions League loss to Real Madrid, having played 120 minutes in the Bernabeu on Wednesday evening, which may have contributed to a lethargic and mostly disappointing first half in the Wembley sunlight.
The win sets up a clash with Liverpool on Saturday 14 May, after the Reds defeated Manchester City 3-2 on Saturday. The two teams will face in a domestic final for the second time this season, with the Reds winning the Carabao Cup on penalties against Chelsea in February.
“I’m happy to be part of it again. I could not be more excited, more proud, because it’s a huge competition and to play another final at Wembley, I am very grateful. We will be ready.” said the Chelsea boss.
The German singled out Loftus-Cheek, who ignited the game with a spectacular first-half goal.
“We knew we had Ruben with a big impact from the bench and I’m very happy with him at the moment.
