Chelsea Have Made 'Direct Contact' With RB Leipzig For Timo Werner

Reports originating from Germany claim Chelsea are looking to beat Liverpool to Timo Werner signing.

For a while now, the Reds were thought to be favourites to land Werner amongst a host of European outfits.

German news outlet, Kicker has stated (via Metro) that Frank Lampard is desperate to see Werner’s deal through as quickly as possible. His attacking tactics have been rendered useless several times without a competent forward at the back of it. While Tammy Abraham has proven to be a top number nine, there needs to be some support in terms of a backup.

Of course, Werner is far too good to simply be a bench option. The German is highly versatile and can play from various positions in the final third. If anything, Abraham could continue at centre-forward while Werner fills in from the left flank in Lampard’s preferred 4-3-3 formation.

Kicker claims that rumours of Werner’s £52m release clause is true and that makes him an attainable target for Chelsea. The forward has lit up the Bundesliga this season with 21 goals in 25 appearances. He continues to develop at a meteoric rate and is already one of the most lethal strikers in Europe. Chelsesa have already signed Hakim Ziyech to bolster their attacking ranks and are now looking into Werner, Philippe Coutinho and Gabriel Magalhaes of Lille. Hopefully, Lampard’s persistence will see out a Werner deal over the line soon.
