Club’s record goalscorer and fan favourite Frank Lampard was sacked following their 3-1 FA Cup win against Luton Town and was quickly replaced by German coach Thomas Tuchel.
The ex-PSG coach revealed that he always wanted to sign Kante and will now deploy him in a more defensive midfield role.
“I think he’s the strongest in the double-six, in the centre, in the heart of the game,” said Tuchel who previously tried to sign Kante.
“It gives him a little bit, for me, more freedom than when he plays as a single six. We can use his energy, the volume in his game and his ability to recuperate and recover balls everywhere on the pitch.
“He’s a guy who is a big, big helper for everybody, with a big potential, with a mentality of a water-carrier, but at the same time a world-class player who played a crucial role in the World Cup win for France. And that’s why it’s super-important to have him.”
