Chelsea has been urged to sign Nick Pope who has been excellent for Burnley in recent seasons.

Former Blues midfielder Craig Burley requests Chelsea to sign Burnley shot-stopper Nick Pope to solve their mishaps in goal.

Pope has been phenomenal in the last two seasons since becoming Burnley’s number-one choice in goal in the 2017/18 season.

Kepa Arrizabalaga has been under fire due to his unsatisfactory performance last season.

He struggled to maintain a clean sheet last season which made Chelsea one of the weakest teams in Premier League in terms of defence.

Pope, 28, has earned two caps for England and is supposedly next in line to be Gareth Southgate’s regular goalkeeper after a poor season by Everton star Jordan Pickford.

“I still think Nick Pope at Burnley is one of the best out there,” Burley told ESPN FC.

“I don’t know what the scenario is with Burnley in terms of the fee that they would want for him, of course they don’t want to sell him.

“But I do think that come the Euros in 2021, if he continues the way he did last year, Jordan Pickford won’t be England No 1, or I would be surprised if he was England No 1 come the Euros, that’s how well Pope played, and that’s been noticed.

“I don’t know if Lampard likes him but for me, that would be a much better scenario than Kepa starting the season.

“But it’s going to come down to money.”
