Chelsea winger played his first game for the team mid-week after his long term injury. Frank Lampard demands more from Hudson-Odoi.

Youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi ruptured his Achilles tendon in April and he made his appearance for the Blues in the Carabao Cup mid-week against Grimsby Town. Frank Lampard demands more from Hudson-Odoi.

Chelsea won the match comfortably by a 7-1 margin but the winger didn’t convince manager Frank Lampard.

Club legend and manager said that Callum needs to learn more.

Lampard said that “In terms of his performance, I wasn’t so sure about the first half.”

“In terms of his performance, I wasn’t so sure about the first half,” Lampard said in his post-game press conference.

“I thought him and Christian [Pulisic] as wingers, the message was to hurt the line and run behind and get into the box to take people on. It wasn’t happening and that message didn’t get across.

“It was reinforced pretty strongly and in the second half [Hudson-Odoi] managed to get into better positions. Callum’s talent means that he absolutely works hard to run behind people, to get at people, to be inside, be outside and work off the ball, all those things.”

“He needs to learn because if he wants to play week in and week out that is what he is going to have to do.”

Callum almost left the club for Bayern Munich in the January transfer window. However, he ended but staying as Chelsea refused to sell. Callum has now signed an extension, keeping him at the club for five more years. He will now earn up to £180,000 per week.
