Frank Lampard has backed Chelsea to come out of this tough period they are stuck in.

The Blues slipped to sixth following a 3-1 defeat to Arsenal and a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa this week.

“This is our tough period at the moment. We have to fight for it and we’ll be stronger for it,” Lampard said at his post-match press conference.

“You want to get results at this point of the year. I could feel the players’ disappointment at the end because they want to win. A few weeks ago people were talking about us as title challengers, now it’s a difficult period. The new players are going to get better as they come along.”

Chelsea got the lead early in the second half as Ben Chilwell picked out Olivier Giroud perfectly in the Villa box. Anwar El Ghazi ended up scoring the equaliser and forcing a point out of the hosts.

“A month ago, probably we win that game,” Lampard continued. “You have to fight through it, but I can’t ask for more than what the players gave.

“We started really well. Villa had some moments but we came through the first-half really good. Second-half, we conceded a goal with a man on the floor, that’s kind of the run we’re on at the minute. And then we pushed, and we couldn’t break the deadlock in the end to get the win. But attitude wise it was really good, against a good team.”
