Eden Hazard’s dream team

Eden Hazard’s dream team? Which 5-a-side team do you think Eden Hazard would pick? Here we look at Eden Hazard’s dream team. Chelsea superstar Eden Hazard has picked his five-a-side dream team of players he has played so far in his career. It is slightly weird given that he has picked a formation with no defenders and wants Gervinho to play as a makeshift defender.

Eden Hazard picked five players he’d love to have in his dream team.

Goalkeeper

THIBAUT COURTOIS :

Thibaut Courtois is a Belgian goalkeeper who plays for Atlético Madrid on loan from Chelsea FC.

He gave a start to his career at a football club Bilzen V.V. in 1997 where he spent 3 years before moving to Genk. At first he played as a left defender but the goalkeeping craft appealed more to him.

When Thibaut signed for Genk in the season of 2008/09 no one expected that the footballer would make his first appearance on April 17, 2009 against Gent at the age of 16.

Two years later in the season 2010/11 Thibaut became a starter for Genk and was awarded the best goalkeeper of the Belgian championship (Pro-League) conceding 32 goals in 40 games with 14 clean sheets.

Before the beginning of the season 2011/12 Thibaut was transferred from Genk to Chelsea having signed a 5-year contract but soon he was loaned by Atlético Madrid for a year.

That was a right choice as Thibaut played for Atlético so well that the Spanish team decided to loan him for another season thus letting him play in La Liga of 2012/13 as a first-choice keeper. Curtois was one of those to conquer the UEFA Europa League Cup of the season 2011/12 and help the ‘rojiblancos’ reach their fifth position in the championship.

Defender

GERVINHO “I played with him at Lille and we won two trophies together. He was very good at creating.”

Gervinho (Gervais Yao Kouassi) was born in Anyama, near Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. The forward began his career in the ASEC Mimosas youth team and spent five years there. The Brazilian coach of the club gave him a ‘Gervinho’ nickname and the footballer plays under it up till now.

Soon Gervais joined then Ivorian Deuxieme Division Zone Four club Toumodi, where he played with future stars and brothers Kolo, Yaya and Ibrahim Touré for some time.

Two years later Gervinho moved to Belgian side Beveren and stayed with the club till 2007. In 2007/2008 season he played for Ligue 1 club Le Mans alongside his compatriot Romaric.

After a great season in Le Mans, scouts of different teams took an interest in the forward. The scouts of Monaco, PSG, Marseille and even Arsenal were among them. However, in July 2009 Gervais signed a three-year contract with Lille.

In July 2011, though, Gervinho transferred to Arsenal but had limited opportunities with the Gunners. After two years and 63 matches for the side Gervinho completed a transfer to Roma in August 2013.

Midfield

JUAN MATA : “From the first training session we were together our understanding was very good and we had a good relationship.”

Juan Manuel Mata García was born on 28 April 1988 in Burgos, Spain.

Real Oviedo was the first club of Juan Mata where he learned to play football professionally. In 2003 Mata signed for Real Madrid and spent four years with their youth club. In 2007 he transferred to Valencia, where he played as a regular and made his first goal in 2008 during the Copa del Rey semifinal match against Barcelona.

Mata made 174 appearances and notched up 46 goals for Valencia. In the summer 2011 Arsenal made a good offer to Valencia in regard to Juan Mata but it was Chelsea that managed to sign the Spaniard in August 2011. Juan became the leader of the London club and was voted the best player of the team in 2012 and 2013. However, Mata fell out with the new manager Jose Mourinho and was looking for a new club in the season 2013/2014. Manchester United needed creativity in midfield and signed the Spaniard for 44 million euros in January 2014.

Since 2009 Juan Mata has played for the Spain national team and won the World Cup 2010 and European Cup 2012.

Strikers

DEMBA BA : “My best friend! And not because I played with him, because I didn’t really get the chance – he was on the bench a lot and then when he started to play I was injured.”

Demba Ba is a striker, born on 25 May 1985 in Sèvres, which is a suburb of Paris, France.

In 1992 Demba began to play for local club Montgaillard. In 1999/2000 he moved to Port Autonome du Havre and then to Frileuse in 2000/2001.

In 2001 Ba went to Châtillon, where he played for Montrouge till 2004. After a while the representatives of Watford offered him to train with the first team. Demba spent five months with the first team of ‘The Hornets’, but soon he had to leave the club due to the appointment of a new head coach.

In July 2005 Ba was invited to the Rouen reserve team, but by the end of pre-season trainings he signed for the first team. In 2005/2006 Demba made 26 appearances and scored 22 goals, which could not be left unnoticed by Belgian side Mouscron.

Mouscron eventually offered to buy the footballer and Ba signed his first contract with the Belgian League club. During his debut match for Mouscron against Cercle Brugge in the first round of the Belgian Championship 2006/2007, Ba made an assist that helped his team to win 2-1. After that season, he moved to Germany.

On 29 August 2007, the footballer made his first appearance for 1899 Hoffenheim. Demba became the top goalscorer after netting 12 goals, which helped the club to get the promotion to the Bundesliga. Ba took part in 30 league matches and three DFB-Pokal matches.

On 28 January 2011, West Ham United signed Demba Ba till 2015. The striker took part in 12 matches of the season and contributed seven goals. However, that did not prevent the club from relegating to the Championship and as a result Ba left West Ham and became a free agent according to the terms of the contract.

On 17 June 2011, Demba joined Newcastle on a free transfer and signed a contract till 2014.

In 2013 though big-spending Chelsea activated his buy-out clause and signed him for 3.5 years. However, in the summer 2014 Ba completed a move to Besiktas.

DIDIER DROGBA : “I have a lot of respect for Didier. I saw a lot of his games before I came to Chelsea and he was one of the top players. It’s a pleasure to be his team-mate now.”

Didier Drogba was born on March 11, 1978, in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. After emigrating to France at an early age, he became a star soccer player in his adopted country and later led the world-famous Chelsea club to multiple championships. An immensely popular figure in Africa, Drogba has captained the Ivory Coast national team and earned acclaim for his humanitarian efforts.

Drogba signed his first pro contract with Le Mans when he was 21, but he received his first big break after transferring to Guingamp in 2002, where he helped the club avoid relegation to the second division. He transferred to Marseille for the 2003-04 season, scoring 19 goals in 35 games to win the French Ligue 1 Player of the Year. Having reached his athletic prime, the 26-year-old was targeted by many of Europe’s top clubs, and Chelsea paid a transfer fee of roughly $36 million for his services in 2004.

Drogba’s performance was uneven in his first two seasons of Premier League play, and he drew heavy criticism for “diving,” the act of falling down after contact in hopes of drawing a foul, and for his outbursts at referees. But the powerful 6’2″ striker finally appeared comfortable in his third season, scoring 33 goals to win the Premier League Golden Boot, along with the game winners in the League Cup and FA Cup finals.

Drogba’s career with Chelsea ended in storybook fashion when he scored the winning goal in a penalty shootout against Bayern Munich in the 2012 Champions League final. Altogether, he scored 157 goals in 341 appearances with Chelsea, and helped the club to three English Premier League titles, four FA Cups and two League Cups.

Droba signed a lucrative deal with Shanghai Shenhua in June 2012, but his career in China was short-lived, as he played just 11 games with Shanghai before transferring to the Galatasaray club in Turkey.

Hazard also added: “I know I don’t have any defenders in my team, but when do you think the opponent will get the ball?

“They are not getting the ball, but even if they do then I have Thibaut there to stop them.”
