Why has Chelsea's Werner deal not gone through yet?
Bildbyran

A week ago, it was announced to the surprise of everyone, that Chelsea had won the race for Timo Werner.

The chase was kept a secret for most of the journey but with Chelsea lurking around the finish line, major media houses and reliable journalists all but confirmed the deal.

From contract details to years, to release clause, to managerial styles of play and how Werner was convinced – the whole story was put into a sequence which made perfect sense.

However, with the Chelsea fan base waiting patiently, there was no announcement. To everybody’s dismay, RB Leipzig instead announced that a deal had not been reached as no club had approached them for Werner.

So was it all a lie? Or else what is holding back Werner’s move to Chelsea?

As it turns out, Chelsea may have indeed not negotiated with the club. They have only agreed on terms with the player and given each other their word. The reason is that Chelsea do not feel the urgent need to approach Leipzig as the player has a release clause which only needs to be triggered leaving the German club powerless to stop a move.

Moreover, for a player to be signed, the most crucial yet often overlooked aspect is medical. Due to the current situations, Chelsea have not been able to send doctors over to Germany and neither has Werner been able to fly down to Cobham for a medical. The medical is supposedly set to take place post 27 June when the German league is finished.

So do not worry Chelsea fans, so far everything is still in place for the Blues.
