Chelsea’s new striker signing Timo Werner didn’t fail to impress in his debut Blues game.

In his first game for Chelsea itself, the former RB Leipzig sensation managed to score a stellar goal against Brighton on Saturday at the Amex Stadium. Needless to say, head coach Frank Lampard was very happy with the striker, satisfied with Werner’s performance in the match overall, along with the goal he scored.

“I thought Timo was really sharp and bright,” he added.

“He got his goal really early in the game.

“He showed some of the qualities that I know very well he has so I am very excited about having him in the squad.

“I thought his work rate and everything about him was a great little start for him and Hakim Ziyech was the same.

“Some of his contributions and passing and quality levels were great.”

Lampard also provided an update for Hakim Ziyech’s injury with who he was also very happy with – and it’s not looking too serious thankfully.

“He has a bit of a knock on his knee, a little bit of a small twist which we will have to assess,” Lampard said after the game.

“Hopefully it is not too bad, but in the performances they were both really good.”
