There are now just three serious bidders in the race to buy Chelsea

The Chelsea ownership saga continues as Chelsea look for a Sporting director for the new era.

Following the departure of the Ricketts family from the process, there are currently just three genuine candidates in the battle to acquire Chelsea.

They all have rather similar characteristics, and according to two of them, they have the same notion for a sporting director. According to David Ornstein’s piece today, Paul Mitchell has been “figuring significantly in early negotiations.” The former footballer is presently in a similar capacity at Monaco, after previously excelling at MK Dons, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, and Leipzig.

On the one hand, he appears to be the finest in the industry. On the other hand, it feels a bit like a huge name was snatched out of thin air to attempt to dazzle the eager fans, and perhaps it is.

We’ll see what happens with this narrative in the future, but Monaco has Mitchell under contract for the time being, and bringing him in this year may be pricey.
