Chelsea would be willing to cash in on striker Timo Werner this summer if the price is right

The £59m-rated German joined the Premier League from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2020 in a £54m deal, but he has scored only 10 top-flight goals in an unimpressive tenure with the Blues.

Werner was one of the finest goal scorers in European football when he left the Bundesliga, having scored almost 100 times for RB Leipzig. However, the 26-year-old just hasn’t acclimated to English football, and while his form has improved marginally, allowing him to start the previous eight league games – including Sunday’s match against Everton – he’s far from a finished product.

He’s only scored 23 goals in 88 games for Chelsea, but he’s also provided 21 assists. He was brought in to help the Londoners contend for the Premier League crown. Werner is open to leave Chelsea this summer, with a return to Germany a distinct possibility.

According to the source, Chelsea is prepared to take roughly £34 million for his services, and Borussia Dortmund is one of the teams interested in providing him with a lifeline.

Werner’s contract at Stamford Bridge will expire at the end of the season, but his agency is apparently already negotiating on a deal given his problems in England.

With Romelu Lukaku’s future also in serious doubt, Chelsea surely won’t want to sell both of their recognised strikers in the same window
