Tuchel told about changing team formation and playing with four defenders at the back.
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel was happy after a 2-0 victory over Tottenham. He spoke about the tactics last night which helped them to earn three points.
Tuchel was speaking via football.london and told about changing his team’s formation against Spurs and playing with four defenders at the back. This victory was important for the club as they were winless in their last four ties.
The German had previously employed this tactic against the same side across both legs of the Carabao Cup semi-final.
He said, “We changed the tactics in the first match against Tottenham and we reacted to it. We felt it gave us solutions to escape the high pressing without having wing-backs. Trevoh had one training session and Andreas wasn’t available.”
Blues established their dominance in the second half, scoring twice in the space of ten minutes, thanks to Hakim Ziyech and Thiago Silva.
He also added, “It’s one way forward. We tried a 4-1-4-1 formation today because we tried a 4-4-2 in the first match and that gave us an advantage but then they reacted in the second match. So we thought it could be an approach to give us a solution in the last matches and we had players for the formation, players who should be on the pitch in good positions, it gives us more options.”
Last night’s win helped Chelsea to make their position strong and took them to within a point of Liverpool in the second spot in the league standings.
