Tuchel had a strange plan for Kounde if he had joined Chelsea

After Jules Kounde declined Chelsea to join Barcelona six months ago, some intriguing news is emerging from Spain

According to reports, Thomas Tuchel’s idea for the Frenchman was to utilise him as a wing back in his preferred 5 man back line, as stated to him throughout the courting process. Of sure, Kounde is capable of doing it; we saw it during this World Cup. Reece James would have had to start at right centre back.

Last season, Tuchel used this tactic pretty frequently, especially when we were playing extremely tough teams like Real Madrid.

Right wing back Cesar Azpilicueta, who is more defensive, would give cover outside while James would slide inside as a right centre back.

Tuchel had something in mind for Kounde, even though we don’t think he intended to do it every week because it would be such a waste of James’ attacking abilities.

In a conversation with the defender, Thomas Tuchel made it obvious that he wanted to use Jules Kounde as a right wing-back in a five-man defence at Chelsea. Because of this, the summer transfer fell through.
