Arsenal legend and football pundit Thierry Henry has publicly praised Chelsea’s pre-signing Geovany Quenda, calling the 18-year-old winger “special” and highlighting his fearlessness and potential.
Thierry Henry Labels Chelsea’s Incoming Signing Geovany Quenda a “Special” Talent
Henry, who observed Quenda during the UEFA Under-21 Euros, expressed admiration for the youngster’s attitude and style of play.
Quenda, who currently plays for Sporting Lisbon, is set to join Chelsea next summer in a deal worth approximately £45 million, a transfer agreed upon in March 2025.
Despite interest from Manchester United, the Portuguese youth international chose Stamford Bridge, becoming part of Chelsea’s strategic acquisitions of young talents under the BlueCo Group’s ownership.
Henry remarked in an interview with CBS:
“This kid is special. I saw him at the Under-21 Euros. The way he goes about what he does, I like it. He has no fear, you would expect that from a youngster.
But there’s something special about him. I just hope that he can show it for a very long time”.
Quenda has already made an impact this season, scoring one goal and providing four assists in seven appearances across all competitions for Sporting Lisbon.
His goal came in the Champions League, underscoring his capability on the European stage.
Primarily a right winger but capable of operating on the left, Quenda adds versatility to Chelsea’s attacking options.
His arrival will further bolster a squad already rich in wing talent, including Estevao Willian and Pedro Neto.
Chelsea’s approach of securing young prospects early—exemplified by the signings of Quenda and Estevao—reflects a long-term vision.
While Quenda’ potential is undeniable, his development will be closely watched as he prepares to transition to the Premier League.
