Thiago Silva persuaded former Chelsea winger Willian to return to Chelsea.

Willian spent seven seasons with the West London outfit and made his switch to Arsenal in 2020.

The Brazil international who won two Premier League titles with Chelsea failed to make to an impact at the North London club.

He then agreed to make a move to his boyhood club in Brazil, Corinthians.

Following his short spell in Brazil, the veteran winger returned to Fulham in the Premier League this summer and scored against Chelsea last month.

He has bagged two goals and three assists in the Premier League in 14 appearances.

Blues defender Thiago Silva tried to bring the former Chelsea winger at Stamford Bridge when he was at the Emirates.

‘Willian is special,’ Silva told ESPN Brazil. ‘I have a special affection for this kid, as a player and off the pitch as a person.

‘Before he left for Corinthians, I tried to bring him back [to Chelsea], but unfortunately things didn’t advance, they didn’t work.

‘I knew he was a very important player. In our first game [against Fulham], he scored a goal against us, he’s having important performances with Fulham.

‘Hopefully on Friday he will be calmer.’
