The Reason Why Declan Rice's Move To Chelsea Didn't Happen

Chelsea couldn’t catch hold of Declan Rice in time. But why is that so?

The Blues had been pursuing the West Ham midfielder for a long time now, but as far as reports came in, Chelsea didn’t push too many talks with West Ham for him.

Chelsea has spent the most in this transfer window, amounting up to £200 million – which is more than any other Premier League club this year. But fans were left disappointed with Declan Rice’s deal not working out.

The reason behind this is that Lampard probably couldn’t keep his interest maintained in the West Ham ace. This might also be due to the fact that Chelsea still has to give several of their players like Danny Drinkwater, Victor Moses and Emerson Palmeri away.

ESPN pundit and Arsenal star Stewart Robson has further commented on how Lampard is yet to still build a strong starting eleven.

“Everyone talks about buying loads of players and making sure your squad is big, getting players in all in one go and doing it early,” he said.

“But if you don’t then get them to gel, you’ve got a problem.

“I thought in their first few games, Chelsea had slight problems. We saw that against West Brom when they couldn’t defend.

“That would be my one criticism of Chelsea.

“I’m not sure that when Frank Lampard bought those players in, knew how he wanted to play and what his best team was.

“I’m still not sure he knows what his best team is.”
