The One Player Frank Lampard Must Sign In January

Chelsea suffered their fourth league defeat in five games and Jamie Redknapp believes it is time for Frank Lampard to restrengthen his squad.

It was a close encounter between Chelsea and Bournemouth on Saturday but the Cherries ran out winners through Dan Gosling’s cheeky finish.

Tammy Abraham seems to be the only striker delivering goals for Chelsea. Michy Batshuayi has struck the back of the net just once in the Premier League this season. Olivier Giroud has not even managed that, losing his spot in the starting lineup altogether.

“As for Abraham, he needs better back-up,” Redknapp wrote on his Daily Mail column. “Michy Batshuayi has not quite cut it as a deputy, while Olivier Giroud is likely to leave in January so that he can get the game time he needs ahead of Euro 2020.

“Lampard may have already been planning to spend in January after their transfer ban was lifted but I wonder if their recent form forces his hand even more. I wonder if he will now look to bring in a bit of experience, some tried and tested reinforcements who can relieve the pressure on Mount and Abraham.

“Those two have shown themselves as Chelsea’s saviours time and time again this season. Where would that club be now without those two? Not fourth, I can tell you that.”
