Benfica have previously been connected to the winger. Under Robin Van Persie, he will play. José Mourinho’s Fenerbahçe eliminated Feyenoord from the Champions League in the third qualifying round, defeating them 6-4 overall.

Van Persie celebrated the catch, stating that Sterling’s history speaks for itself. As they work to achieve their goals in the second half of the season, he thinks the forward’s skills might alter games and make him an invaluable addition.

In 2022, Chelsea acquired Sterling for 56 million euros. After that, he made 81 appearances and scored 19 goals while working under four different managers: Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, Frank Lampard, and Mauricio Pochettino. Feyenoord wanted Sterling to sign a longer-term contract, but the 31-year-old wants to leave his options open into the summer, Standard Sport understands. Over a ten-year international career from 2012 to 2022, the former winger for Liverpool, Manchester City, and Arsenal amassed 82 caps for England.

“As a free agent, I’ve had the opportunity to control the next step in my career for the first time in a long time,” Sterling stated. “To make sure I can truly contribute to this next phase, I wanted to take the time to talk with clubs and their head coaches to better understand the role they envisioned for me.

“I’m sure that Feyenoord is a location where I can be happy and establish myself as a valuable part of the squad after having a lengthy conversation with Robin. For me, playing overseas is a completely different challenge, one that I’m prepared to take on.

To be honest, I’m just eager to get going. I want to express my gratitude to Feyenoord for their professionalism and tolerance during this process, especially to Robin and Dennis [Te Kloese, technical director].
