Souness Belives Timo Werner Cost Lampard His Job At Chelsea

Timo Werner has not impressed many during his time at Chelsea till date.

The Blues signed him from RB Leipzig last summer through Frank Lampard’s brilliant convincing capabilities.

Werner arrived at the back of his best season in the Bundesliga but has failed to replicate that form. He has faced a severe goal drought in England and one which he is still struggling to get over. However, he did impact the team with two assists against Sheffield United.

Chelsea won 2-1 with Werner picked in the starting lineup. Now, Thomas Tuchel has managed three wins out of four at Stamford Bridge.

Graeme Souness told Sky Sports on Sunday night, “I’m yet to be convinced (by Werner). Chelsea are a team that’s full of really good players with big technique.

“They get into the last third time and time again and they will wonder what he is doing. They need more from him. Put it this way, if he had done the business, Frank would still be in a job.”

Frank Lampard’s firing did not come as a shock to many. Chelsea are well known to sack manager whoever fail to deliver and he received no special treatment. But tying an entire team’s failure on one player seems like an exaggeration.
